Mom's Tatting & 100 comments

Hey my Blogging friends,
Have you heard about '100 comment on my Blog Event?
It so happens that sometimes you blog about some nice painting or a craft and even after a few days you do not recieve a single comment..........:(

We cannot evaluate our work by the number of comments but hey who doesn't feel good when we read somebody's comment on our post?!! Well I do....
Blogelina is hosting this week long '100 comments on my Blog event....
So join this event.... You might make a lot of new friends in this Blog World.... And here is my blog for this event.......

Have you people heard about Tatting?

I do not do any tatting but my Mother is hooked on to it....
She used to do this Tatting a few years back... but then she left it....
Now the Tatting Bug has bitten her again... and she has been experimenting and trying new patterns everyday..
Recently when she visited us here in Guntur, in January, she gave a few of these to me...:)

I am not such a big fan of Tatting but am searching a few new patterns for my mom so that she can do those things .......
We want her to be busy otherwise she worries about anything and everything :(

I've never heard of tatting before- my favorite is the blue and white... something about it makes me feel very happy:) I've learned two things today because I also checked out a few of your posts with your quilling- I can't believe those are made with paper---- they are amazing!! Of course, I don't have an artistic bone in my body, so I always appreciate when people can create beauty. I think that my daughter would enjoy experimenting with this art form... I'll have to see if I can find some information for kids/ complete beginners! Thanks for sharing your beautiful work!

My sister loves to tat, I for one am more of a knitter. The detail work required for tatting is too much for me. I absolutely love the blue and white one! It is so true that tatting (or in my case, knitting) can be a great way to keep the mind busy and away from worry.

So pretty! I always think I'd like to learn a hands on project like this for working on in "down time". The thing is, my hands are always busy with 3 little ones these days, so I guess the learning will have to wait. :) Thanks for sharing your mother's beautiful work.

Lovely - I've never heard of this before, but it is very pretty!

My local yarn store is offering a tatting class that I've thought about taking, but don't know if I have the patience. I love my knitting though. About you mom and worrying, I think it is part of the package of motherhood. We can't help but worry about our families.
This was an interesting post and I loved the photos.

Oh my goodness! That is downright beautiful. Looks like your mom has a great bit of patience and talent as well. Thanks so much for sharing!

I am a knitter, well I must admit I can only knit one pattern and make them into scarfs. I love this technique though, it's very intricate. I like how you posted about the blogging event too.

My gramma used to tat all the time. She always had her tatting with her. She made beautiful snowflakes, Christmas trees, candy canes, and candles for decorations. I remember as a little girl she tried to teach me. Mine wasn't going so well, so I said Gramma, I'll do yours and you do mine. Such sweet memories. Thanks for reminding me of them!

tatting seems interesting. I dont know if I have the steady hands or the patience to do it though but it seems fun.

How amazing to see a post on Tatting! I was reminiscing recently about my Great Grama (from Holland) who would Tat for hours until she died at 99! I did learn to embroider from her and have taught myself to knit and crochet and other hand crafts as I grew up. I do wish I'd learned to Tat back then... perhaps yet someday. Thanks for sharing and allowing me to know that that art is not Gone as yet!

My grandmother used to make those when I was a kid. It takes a lot of talent do those in my opinion!

Wow- I have never heard of this, but I think the finished product is beautiful! My mom spends $$$ on vintage pieces that look like this...I am going to try to do it myself and make a gift for her :)

Tatting, don't think I have ever heard of it, but I think it is very pretty and vintage looking.

They are so beautiful! I saw someone tatting before and know how hard it is. You should have your mom teach you as there aren't many out there who have this skill.

Those are beautiful! I remember coming across my mom's tatting supplies when I was young. I was much more crafty then, but it was something I just couldn't get the hang of. Maybe someday..

My grandmother used to tatt and I am always torn about using the pieces she made - I don't want them ruined, yet I want to appreciate them! I wouldn't even know where to start to learn this now!

These are beautiful! Had never heard of it before now. Very cool. I'm still trying to learn my sewing machine I got year before last for Christmas! Hopefully one day life slows down a little so I can learn a new hobby like that :)

I first that you meant tattoos. lol. Anyway, I'm not a tea drinker so I wouldn't have much use for this but it's nicely designed.

Those are very pretty! I know that I don't have the patience to do that! My grandma tried to teach me to crochet several times...huge fail every time!

Oh, I love the pink & white doilie. So pretty! Reminds me of Brazil where I grew up. These are made a lot down there.

JulieK said...

now while I'll admit this is not my style of decor, the pieces are very beautiful and seem so well made. It is wonderful that she can do this kind of crafting and enjoys it, especially if it keeps her mind at ease! Thanks for the pretty pictures! :)

I have never heard the term, either, but your mother is very talented. There are not only beautiful creations but you are also a wonderful photographer.

Tatting is on my 'To-Learn' List! I first saw it last year on a link party and I have been wondering how it's done every since. I love how the end product looks so dainty and lacy. One of these days, I will try this too. Your mom is really good!

Deborah Owen said...

Oh my goodness! Those are absolutely gorgeous. You could sell those on the net in a heartbeat, girl! This is an awesome hobby. Keep up the good work. Deb

I have never heard of tatting but the detail is beautiful. I might have to look into trying this sometime. Your drawings are wonderful. You have a lot of talent. I love the pencil drawing of the stone bridge over the railroad track. It is so peaceful to look at.

I have heard of tatting but didn't know exactly what it was. Very beautiful! I do some crosstitching and even though it is so time consuming for small results, there is something about it that is relaxing and knowing that when I've done a stitch, I'll never have to do that exact stitch again (very unlike the dishes I have to wash over and over!)

Single Gal said...

Those are pretty! I've never been much for tatting myself, though. I prefer cross-stitch or needlepoint.

ashley@proverbsliving.com said...

Honestly, I thought this would be about tattoos! Ha! These are much more beautiful! So much detail!

Thank you for taking me down memory lane. Back in junior high (1960), we had to take several home ec courses...and tatting was one of them. I loved it!
Your photos are great...makes me want to get out the thread and go to work. :)
